OKAlpiq has a deep concern about social and environmental impact of its activities and strives to run its operations in a sustainable manner. The combined cycle power plant Plana del Vent in Spain is one example as it has just obtained its EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certificate.
The EMAS certification is in addition to the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certificates already held by Alpiq Energía España, which guarantee that health and safety, environmental and quality performance is monitored in detail in a professional manner, with a view to continuous improvement. Now, to disclose and prove further transparency as well as being supervised by local Environmental Authorities, Alpiq Spain has registered its operations at Plana del Vent power plant in the EMAS registry, which involves a periodic public disclosure of its environmental performance.
EMAS is a completely voluntary European environmental control regulation for organisations that wish to evaluate and improve their environmental performance by making public information related to their environmental management.
The Catalan Government's Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda has certified the registration of Alpiq Energía España's Plana del Vent combined cycle thermal power plant in the EMAS register.
Alpiq Country Manager Guillermo Negro says: “We are very happy that Alpiq Spain obtained the EMAS certificate. It clearly shows our commitment to the environment in a responsible and transparent manner. A milestone made possible thanks to the involvement of all employees to highlight the value of the efforts derived from its environmental management system.”
Business and the environment can go hand in hand. EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a European resource-saving environmental management system. By implementing it, companies are able to save resources intelligently. EMAS-certified organisations make an effective contribution to environmental protection, save costs and demonstrate social responsibility. EMAS ensures that all environmental aspects from energy consumption to waste and emissions are implemented in a legally secure and transparent manner.
Located in Vandellós, approximately 130 km southwest of Barcelona, Plana del Vent is a combined cycle power plant equipped with two 400 MW modules. Each module is comprised of a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator and a steam turbine. Thanks to its total capacity of 846 MW, Plana del Vent can supply electricity to cover the annual consumption of two million households.
